Welcome to the Motril!

MOTRIL
Motril is seated on a hill at the foot of the Sierra de Lújar, it is considered the capital of the Costa Tropical. It enjoys a mild weather, suitable for growing species, such as sugar cane and tropical fruits. It gives this land a characteristic and differentiated note of subtropical climate.

It also participates in the southern Mediterranean essences: a calm sea and a blue  and bright sky, and warm and gentle breezes are felt on beaches such as La Joya, Poniente or Carchuna.

PREINDUSTRIAL MUSEUM OF SUGAR CANE

It is located behind the Casa de la Palma, on the remains of an old sugar mill of the XVI century. In a space of over 1,000 square meters it is possible to recognize the process of manufacturing and marketing of sugar, between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries. It has a original scale reproductions of the mills and presses, as well as the brewhouse and purging of sugar loaves.                   
 
Park of the Peoples of America
    It is located at the foot of Hill of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Head. It is home to more than 50 exotic and subtropical trees and shrubs brought from various parts of the American continent plants, each with its explanatory panel.
    It is an ideal place to walk and breathe tranquility. It also offers children's playground area and venue for concerts and outdoor events.
 
Beaches
Azucenas beach
    Azucenas is a long stretch of sand between the Port of Motril and Torrenueva.

Charca de Suárez
    It is a wetland or pond located in the municipality of Motril, located in close proximity to the Poniente beach, in the so-called "Pago de Suarez," hence comes the name.
    It is an area of ​​perennial free water, although fluctuating, which receives water from underground area of ​​the aquifer of Motril-Salobreña, and by contributions return water from irrigation of the Vega (water coming after passing and watered the fields of the Vega.
    There are also ponds where groundwater elevations appear and two meters below ground. Thanks to this, there is a diverse vegetation: plants from aquatic plants to dry soils. Also lives a varied fauna.
    After much struggle by environmental organizations is an area that is protected.
    Motril maintains the wetland with the possibility of educational visits and individuals.
    The pond has five observatories Suarez, one of scientific use, and eight information panels explaining the visitor are the different areas of the wetland.
